Colorado Springs, Colorado, September 9 to 14, 2025. “Pike’s Peak or Bust!” Twenty-nine members and seven cars gathered under sunny skies for tours of the Air Force Academy, the Garden of the Gods, two aviation museums, a senior living centre and the Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, with a technical session on 12-volt fuel pumps, LED headlight bulbs and modern oils along the way.

Wednesday, September 10

The United States Air Force Academy first: the planetarium, the noon meal formation of 4,000 cadets on the Terrazzo, and lunch in Arnold Hall. Then the Garden of the Gods, its visitor centre and a drive through the red rocks, a little over 50 miles for the day.

Thursday, September 11

The Peterson Air and Space Museum on Peterson Space Force Base, with the Art Deco terminal of the original Colorado Springs airport, lunch at The Airplane Restaurant inside a Boeing KC-97 tanker, and the National Museum of World War II Aviation with its Westpac restoration shop. The annual club meeting followed in the evening.

Friday, September 12

A morning visit with the residents of Brookdale Skyline senior living centre, then Manitou Springs and the Cog Railway to the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet, where the clouds closed in and the snow blew.

Saturday, September 13

A short drive to the Broadmoor Hotel and its grounds, home of the Penrose museum and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Experience, and the annual banquet at the Edelweiss German restaurant that evening.
